In a landmark step for women’s health, the Food and Drug Administration announced on November 10, 2025 that it will remove the longstanding “black box” safety warning from most hormone therapies used to treat menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes and night sweats. This move reflects updated evidence that, for many women under 60 or within ten years of menopause onset, the benefits of hormone therapy may outweigh previously emphasised risks when prescribed thoughtfully and with individualised care.

Adding to the momentum, there is a recent interview on CNN with Dr. Mary Claire Haver in which she discusses how this regulatory shift empowers women to revisit their treatment options with greater clarity and less fear. (YouTube link)

Dr. Mary Claire Haver is not your average women’s health evangelist; she is a board-certified OB/GYN and a Menopause Society Certified Practitioner who has made it her life’s work to bring rigor, candor, and science to the often-mystified world of menopause. She founded The ’Pause Life, a platform that blends medical expertise with real-world empathy, because she has lived the confusion and frustration that so many women experience. When Mary began feeling the jolt of perimenopausal symptoms herself, she was struck by how little reliable information or support existed. So she did what any woman with grit, credentials, and a low tolerance for nonsense would do: she set out to change the landscape.

"Mary envisioned a gathering place where women could speak frankly about symptoms, mood swings, lab results, libido dips, and everything in between without shame, stigma, or confusion".

What makes Mary especially compelling is that she did not simply write about menopause. She built an actual toolkit. The Menopause Toolkit she developed is grounded in six pillars: nutrition, exercise, pharmacology, stress reduction, sleep hygiene, and community. This is not a motivational-poster approach. It is a thoughtful, evidence-informed system rooted in how women’s physiology shifts during midlife. Everything she teaches is designed to be practical, sustainable, and refreshingly honest.

The community she has built is equally noteworthy. Mary envisioned a gathering place where women could speak frankly about symptoms, mood swings, lab results, libido dips, and everything in between without shame, stigma, or confusion. Inside The ’Pause Life community, women find resources, recorded talks, nutrition challenges, and expert guidance. It is a place where midlife is not whispered about, but openly navigated with clarity and camaraderie.

"Guiding women through hormonal shifts, vaginal discomfort, and lifestyle or medical solutions to restore pleasure".

Mary addresses the clinical realities of menopause with candor and clarity, covering topics from metabolic syndrome to sexual health. She emphasizes that needing medical support is not a personal failure and that medication, when used wisely, can be a powerful tool. At the same time, she speaks openly about changes in desire and intimacy, guiding women through hormonal shifts, vaginal discomfort, and lifestyle or medical solutions to restore pleasure. Her approach is both compassionate and evidence-based, inviting women to explore their options collaboratively, without judgment.

All in all, Mary stands as a much-needed figure in the menopause conversation. She is a clinician devoted to transparency, a researcher fluent in real-world language, and a community-builder who believes that midlife is not a decline but a transition rich with possibility. Her work reframes menopause as an opportunity to thrive, not merely something to endure.

What’s your take on HRT? Midlife can feel a bit like a hormonal rollercoaster, and every woman seems to be navigating it slightly differently. Some swear by it, others are still weighing the options. Wherever you are on the journey, we’re curious. How are you riding the ride? Share your thoughts or experiences in the comments.

I started with HRT about three years ago and girl, what a gamechanger! Mood, bodyache and foggy brain good bye with Estrogen patches (bio) and Progesterone (also bio, cyclical) and the latest and greatest Testosterone used for a year now helping with not only the libido but with building muscles at the gym. Win-win!

For decades many women have silently navigated the storms of perimenopause and menopause; brain fog, hot flushes, mood swings, fatigue all while being told it’s simply “part of getting older.” Dr Louise Newson, a GP turned leading hormone specialist, has made it her mission to change that narrative. Described as “the medic who kickstarted the menopause revolution,” she founded Newson Health and the education platform Newson Education to empower women with clear, evidence-based information and personalised care.

What sets Dr Louise Newson apart is not just her clinical credentials but her holistic approach recognising that hormone health touches everything from sleep to skin to mental clarity. She emphasises that hormone changes aren’t simply an “older woman’s issue” but a life stage that deserves attention, respect, and tailored support.

And because modern life rarely gives us time to decode our hormones, Dr Newson created the Balance app, a free, easy-to-use tool that helps women track symptoms, monitor lifestyle factors, and access evidence-based resources on perimenopause and menopause. Think of it as your hormone translator: it logs your experiences, spots patterns, and even generates a downloadable Health Report© you can bring to your GP. It’s like turning your phone into a pocket-sized ally for reclaiming control over your body.

But Balance isn’t just an app; it’s a lifeline for women who’ve been told to “just get on with it.” Backed by data showing that 72% of users accessed proper treatment after using the app and 7 in 10 reported improved mental health it’s as empowering as it is practical. The app is ORCHA-certified for safety and reliability, and its community features make it feel more like a support circle than software. For those wanting to go deeper, Balance+ adds specialist-led content while keeping the core version free for everyone.

"It’s hormone health made human, accessible, intelligent, and completely judgment-free".

So for every woman who’s ever wondered if she’s “just tired” or “maybe it’s stress,” Balance offers clarity, connection, and a dose of reassurance. It’s hormone health made human, accessible, intelligent, and completely judgment-free. Because thriving through menopause shouldn’t be revolutionary. It should be standard.

How do you navigate in your storm, or is it even a storm for you or just a small breeze? Share your story in the comments and how you juggle your symptoms!
